recycled stone
I will always endeavor to use recycled stone, using what is already on site or sourcing stone from accredited suppliers. Alternatively, customers can source their own stone suppliers and we recommend using suppliers that are listed on the Dry Stone Walling Association website. I have used stone from outbuildings that customers have asked to be removed and built some amazing walls that blend seamlessly into their surroundings. I use grit stone or limestone, locally sourced and use minimal dressing techniques to avoid wastage.
professional
I pride myself on unrivaled customer service, offering free quotes, detailed descriptions of work to be carried out, with all work invoiced and fully insured. For larger contracts, I will ask for staged payments, though this is fully negotiable. I work closely with customers to develop a clear understanding of the work to be carried out. I have full public liability insurance and practice the highest standards of health and safety.
design
I use the tried and tested ancient techniques of dry stone walling, dismantling damaged or weak walls, installing secure footings, use of batter pins and lines, throughs and cope stones for a traditional finish that is very pleasing to the eye. Mortar is not usually used, as a well built dry stone wall does not require it and will compromise it's capability to drain water. I work closely with customers to meet their individual requirements and make suggestions where necessary.
conservation
I place great value on the role of dry stone walls in conserving the heritage, tradition and wildlife of the environment. It might appear that dry stone walls are a barren, hostile environment for wildlife, but they are in fact a source of considerable habitat, including flora and fauna. They are also incredible to look at and reduce the visual impact of boundaries.
